Enquiry

Our expert tailors will schedule a consultation, to assist you with your tailoring needs. The team cover the whole of the UK, Monday to Friday; meeting at work, home or selected locations. By prior arrangement only, we host in-house appointments at our head office in the West Midlands.

Initial Meeting

We will discuss your requirements and offer expert advice on design, style, fit and cloths. The tailor will showcase samples along side an array of cloths, linings and trims to reach your desired look. Working with your budget, we aim to refine the ideas to your exact vision.

Cloth Selection

We offer a vast range of cloths and linings, many of which are sold on Savile Row. Lyn Oakes are proud to support local British cloth mills and cloth merchants. Worsted wool cloths are known for their formal look, perfect for classic British tailoring. The cloths are put through rub and colourfastness tests, as well as a rigorous quality control, which helps with continuity of supply and selecting the right cloth for each individual, team, or event.

Lyn Oakes can develop custom cloths, for a truly unique uniform look. This process can take 14 weeks, and have a minimum order. Stock supported cloth ranges cover overcoating, suiting, tweeds, linen, poly wool, crepes and fancy linings, so customers always have plenty of strong style options and colours.

Measuring

The trained team understand the art of measuring, offering a discrete and dignified measuring service. We take detailed measures and figuration notes, such as height to shoulder slope, considering the whole body, and a client’s fit preferences. All order details are kept on file, perfect for easy reordering.

Order Confirmation

Upon order confirmation, a deposit may be required. Customers have 1 week to cancel.

Into Work

Lyn Oakes will coordinate the cloths, linings and trims for your order. Clients will be informed, or offered alternatives, if there are cloth production delays. The specialist factory receives the order and cloth pack, and garment production is planned.

Pattern Cutting / CAD

Pattern Makers and/or the CAD team could be involved in refining fit, design features and cloth efficiency. This detailed work can take time, due to the nature of the work involved. Once the pattern is defined, the cutting begins. The cloth, lining and interfacing will be cut for each garment, the fusing of the cloths will take place, and every segment will be wrapped ready for production.

Production

The garment moves to the sewing production phase. Each part of the garment such as the sleeves, front, back, pockets take shape, and are finally assembled. The lining, trims, buttons are the last details. The completed garments are pressed; steaming the cloth and firming the shape and form. Quality control takes place to ensure the garments are to the Lyn Oakes standards, and any defects will be addressed.

Fitting

At the fitting, our tailors will present the outfit to the client, making any necessary adjustments if required. This could entail anything from tweaking trouser lengths to nipping-in the waist. Our in-house specialist workroom manage any alterations. A second fitting is available if required.

Delivery

Once the garment is finished, our warehouse team will compile and prepare the order for delivery or shipping. Final quality control inspections are performed for perfect wearing!
